Southeastern Country Coachers
Spring Rally for the Southeastern Country Coachers
The event began with a pre-rally hosted by John and Lillian Hooker at their personal 15-site 50-amp full hookup Campground on the banks of the South Creek of Pamlico Sound near Aurora, NC. They built the Old Hole Campground for the exclusive use of family and friends. Six SECC families accepted the generous invitation and enjoyed a unique experience. Their Vintage Jukebox by the boat dock filled the air with lively music.Wonderful home cooked meals were prepared by Lillian and friends and enjoyed at the "Barn"...actually a lovely clubhouse. We feasted on Italian food, a Fish Fry, a Pig Pickin' and finally the last night ate "leftovers. Ha! You have never eaten such leftovers!
Much of our time was spent in the rockers on the porch sharing RV stories. We all enjoyed the Memorial Day festivities at Aurora's Fossil Festival which included a breakfast honoring Veterans, a parade (with our own Lillian riding on the Red Hatters float), many vendors, a bus tour of the phosphate mine, helicopter rides and more.
On to the North Carolina Outer Banks and the Southeastern Country Coachers Spring Rally. Twelve coaches met at the Hatteras RV Resort at Rodanthe hosted by John & Lillian Hooker and Jack & Mary Lou Cassingham. The first night was our traditional Pot Luck dinner with ham baked by the Hookers. As always the food was wonderful! Since everyone had misplaced their raffle tickets, all were declared Winners! and won a CC coffee mug.
The next night was a Beach Party with a bonfire where the Hookers grilled yummy shrimp ka-bobs for our appitizer. Next everyone grilled their own hot dog on a stick.....lots of charred hot dogs. Lillian presided over fixin's, baked beans and slaw. Dessert was toasted marshmallows...what a sight! Nothing better than sitting with your friends on the beach watching the waves and sunset.
The final night's dinner was prepared by local caterer, Tom Thumb and his daughter. They prepared fresh local seafood on the site.
During the stay, various members enjoyed "The Lost Colony", outdoor drama; the Wright Brothers Memorial and Museum at Kitty Hawk; a ferry ride to Okracoke Island for lunch at the Jolly Roger; the more adventuresome climbed to the top of the Hatteras Lighthouse, while others just looked at it.
Another successful Rally by the Southeastern Country Coachers. Submitted by Mary Lou Cassingham
